Race Map |
One important thing you cannot ignore when participating in Mountain bike races are track reading. As the term states you go to the spot and read the course. Most of the time organizers and track builders have everything in check a couple of weeks from race day.
Normally I would not participate in a race which was thrown by the said organizer in a hurry. A month is not enough even if the sole reason of the event to have fun and give away medals for those fortunate survivors that crosses the finish line. Really the course is just 30 km long I can do 30 km in an hour waiting for my son to finish his day at kinder garden classes how hard can it be?
On road 30 km is sh*t but do this on trails, with enough ear bursting, heavy breathing elevation, gnarl, and surprises littered on every corner ingredients for a brutal race. San Mateo Timberland offers more than just challenging concrete uphills the "Hidden trails" now open for those who dare try. Come race day basic will just be the resting point of the race before you get your balls crushed by the trails laid out by the sadistic organizers and track builders.

Wall two will be the starting point couple of kilometers worth of pure paved uphill before you enter the timberland trail system the path that leads to hell. Laid out on Maarat red-ish dust which signifies the beginning of the blood, sweat, and tears you will face.
Now the fun begins when you enter the Blue zone nice view of the other mountain besides the mountain your blasting through along with the butt clenching, full commitment single track that will make you appreciate the beauty and danger of blue just don't mind the fear of going OFF the cliff you'll be fine. But do not get discouraged when you find yourself searching for that climb blue harder will make you its bitch almost vertical grade, loose soil prepare to hug your bike when you are falling down from exhaustion.
Personally never tried Green but from what I heard from friends and some other dudes around the trail "parang Aguinaldo pero meron zigzag na ahon" (like Aguinaldo trail with zigzags uphills) will find out soon enough.
Basic fast and straight no need to squeeze your brakes. Unless you are tailing fine girl on the fire road. Trip up signifies the end of your suffering.
Ka vergel remains the same motocross dug ruts the size of grown men. This is the place where balls better kept inside the pants as one mistake here will hurt.
Araneta Pineda You know that this hidden trail will kill you if you are required to log your name upon entering a gated fence. First part of the trail similar to the old Nuvali Dirt Weekend course but don't let that fool you into thinking that this trail will end well. Upon passing the fantastic view of the Mountains be prepared to lower your seat-post, pray and drink your last sip of water...Kidding the downhill tight with trees, roots, rocks, sudden tight turns and drops this place is fun. The small lake which you have to past signifies the end of the awesome bits. Now you have to climb the exit to Sapinit road.
Black diamond never got to ride this trail but from the reactions of friends its nasty.
So their you have it two weekends of Bike ride track reads probably not enough to cover all race trails. It does not matter come race day I will have fun, enjoy the race with friends and other REAL Mountain bikers.
Aftermath of yesterday track read |
